What is Moxibustion?

Moxibustion is a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) therapy.

Moxa wool is the fiber from leaves of the Artemisia Vulgaris Moxa plant, commonly known as mugwort. When there is a yang deficiency or excess yin in the body, moxibustion is used to treat the illness as moxa is yang which corresponds to heat. Moxibustion is used as a warming therapy to build up energy and blood flow when deficient.

Moxibustion is beneficial for joint pain associated with cold weather and colds or flu.

The heat generated is deeply penetrating and soothing, designed to warm the body, improve circulation, and support overall balance.

Moxa can be applied in different ways:

  • Held just above the skin (most common)

  • Placed on top of acupuncture needles

  • Used in a small cone shape on the skin
